Forest School

Please see below for Forest School Dates

Cathedral primary school is committed to giving children the opportunity to learn in the outdoor environment. We believe that taking learning outside is good for promoting children's self esteem, well being, behaviour, co-operative learning and problem solving. These skills feed back positively into classroom work and other settings.

Our Forest school Sessions take place at the woodlands on our Failand site. They give the children the opportunity to make choices with their learning and take and manage risks.Children may enjoy such experiences as building shelters, telling stories, cooking over fires, climbing trees, hunting for minibeasts and making mud pies. Our unique site has been developed by a group of parents, to offer the children the opportunity to play and learn from natural resources. The site includes our very own log circle, sea-saw and swing.  They have their own mud kitchen and mini beast house. As the children become confident in their surroundings, woodland tools are introduced to extend learning and provide new opportunities for risk management.

Forest school sessions are planned and led by Katherine Bailey and Jonathan withers.

Katherine is our Early Years leader and has completed her Level 3 Forest School training making her an official Forest School Leader.

Jonathan Withers has completed Forest School Level 1 and is now working towards Level 3.
