One of the most influential and important aspects of society today is computing; the internet and the technologies which accompany it. At Cathedral Primary school, our curriculum ensures each of our children are prepared for the challenge of this rapidly-developing technological world. By building a sound understanding of the importance of being safe online, being respectful, trustworthy and knowing what to do when we feel unsafe. Children are able to search for specific, age-appropriate content and use it to ‘support’ their learning. We have instilled a love of computing by ‘making available’ ‘and accessible’ an understanding of algorithms and coding. Our school provides children with access to a range of technology, providing them with an environment where access to computing resources is natural and commonplace.

Our aims, in line with the national curriculum, ensure that all children:

– can understand and apply the fundamental principles and concepts of computer science, including abstraction, logic, algorithms and data representation;

– can analyse problems in computational terms, and have repeated practical experience of writing computer programs in order to solve such problems;

– can evaluate and apply information technology, including new or unfamiliar technologies, analytically to solve problems; and

– are competent, confident and creative users of information and communication technology;

– are responsible users of technology and recognise the risks associated with an online presence;

– are critical consumers of online information.
