Special Educational Needs & Disability (SEND) |
SEND Intent Statement
At Cathedral Primary School, we welcome pupils from across the city of Bristol and provide equal opportunities to access the academic and social curriculum within school. We make reasonable adjustments to our provision in the four areas of SEND; Cognition and Learning; Communication and Interaction; Social, Emotional and Mental Health; Sensory and/or Physical Difficulties. We are committed to equality. We want every member of our school community to feel a sense of belonging. We strive to ensure equality permeates throughout all aspects of school life and is everyone’s responsibility. Please see our Equalities, Diversity and Inclusion Policy for more information.
To meet children’s additional needs and support pupils with disabilities, we have a SENCo (Special Educational Needs Co-ordinators) who co-ordinates provision through a highly skilled team of teachers and teaching assistants. In discussion with the parents and the child, the SENCo and class teacher may put in place additional support. Targeted interventions are usually delivered by staff within your child’s phase, in this way the adult is best placed to track progress and review what support should be provided.
In delivering this support we draw on a variety of resources which are carefully tailored to ensure that your child is making progress against their agreed targets. We want you to be fully informed about the support being given to your child and will hold regular meetings with you. If at any time parents/carers have questions or comments, then they can contact their class teacher who will be happy to arrange a suitable meeting time with you.
We also understand that, at times, children may need additional support with managing and understanding their feelings and behaviour. In order to support these children, we have a pastoral team who provide mentoring, ELSA, Music Therapy and Play Therapy. Please click here for the Pastoral Care webpage.
